Artist Statement
My work is about the interconnectedness of all life- micro and macrocosms. It’s about what I sense and imagine, in addition to what is physically seen, heard, touched. I work with paint, paper, collage, and drawing materials…the physical process of working expresses this interconnection as well.
My work is and has always been about nature- in a very broad, inclusive, way. Tongue-in-cheek, I have used the term "invented science".
Cellular life, whether it is air or water born, is a recurring obsession, as well as references to the repeating and mirroring of forms in our natural world. These forms, reduced to their most essential, simplified state, act as points of meditation, as places for the mind to rest, while also commanding attention. They act alternately as floating beings or as entryways into the universe.
Formally, I often use a compositional rectilinear underpinning, an alluded to, grid-like structure, to provide a tension or a grounding element in relation to the floating forms
