Kneeling Man | Julian Voss-Andreae | San Mateo, CA
The interior courtyard is comprised of a large open public area that has a sport field centrally located. This area will be used by residents for gatherings and exercise.
The sculpture of “Kneeling Man” evokes the thoughts of a father or coach kneeling and encouraging children on the field. It is made up of stainless steel plates aligned vertically and sectioned to visually come together and form a 8’ tall man on one knee. When the viewer changes angles and views the sculpture, it nearly vanishes and changes from a solid heavy form to a light almost glass-like form.
