Exploding Hypo 150 | Klari Reiss | Santa Clara, CA
In the main entrance vestibule for the rehab department. there are aluminum architectural panels at the end. To contrast the hard cold surfaces and gaps of the aluminum panels we commissioned the artist Klari Reis to create one of her signature style petri dish pieces. Using 150 petri dishes filled with resin, some opaque and some translucent, she abstractly mimics cultures remembered from her days as a lab worker. The dishes are mounted on varying length rods giving the installation an undulating relief effect. The western facing windows allow light to spill in at different times of the day throughout the seasons to create an ever-changing color and shadow pattern against the aluminum panels.
