Lotus Blossom | Ralph Helmick | Santa Clara, CA
The new bed building is connected to the Main Hospital via a large 2 story “solarium” referred to as the Lobby Link. There is a patient bridge that dissects the space in two. The front side of the bridge is available to the artist.
The artist was commissioned to create a particulate sculpture using custom colored crystal elements in the form of a Lotus Flower. Each color (blue and clear) represents the flower in either its open state or closed. The particulate sculptures are suspended from a water jet cut steel plate representing a “reflection” of the flower in both states. The plate is attached to the steel structure enclosing the Lobby Link and required OSHPD review.
