Reception: Wednesday, May 14th, 5:30 - 7:30pm
Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo show with John Roberts.
“Each Painting was a complete image in my head before I ever started working on it.” – John Roberts
John Roberts had dreamed for decades of taking a road trip out west with his wife and eight children. Now that most of his kids are grown and the trip never came to fruition, he reflects on what it could have been like in his latest body of work. Roberts paints his youngest son, Moses, in the places he had always pictured for his family, eating at truck stops, gazing at vistas and camping where bears roam. Each painting in this body of work acts as a pit-stop on their journey headed west.
This exhibition has provided the opportunity for Roberts to finally make the trip a reality. He and his teenage son, Daniel, will be driving the artwork from his studio in rural Tennessee to Andrea Schwartz Gallery in San Francisco. They will make their own stops and memories along the way and Roberts can see if the trip is what he had always imagined it would be.
