September 17 - October 30, 2025
Reception: Wednesday, September 17th | 5:30 - 7:30pm
Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce the fourteenth solo exhibition with John Belingheri.
“I don't begin with lofty ideas, in fact, they often stall me before I get into the studio. What moves me forward is the need to express and continue a dialogue.” – John Belingheri
John Belingheri describes his work as a negotiation between what is possible and what is failing, adding and subtracting, covering up, and scraping back the residues of daily life. Repetitive patterns cover the canvas, creating a sense of light and depth. Imperfection is part of the process, frayed brushes, contrasting colors, absent lines and small missteps. He does not try to look for answers amongst the layers but rather lets the surface hold questions. Each painting is a small act of persistence, a gesture towards possibilities that may or may not offer clarity.
