Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a two-person exhibition with Linda Christensen and Gwen Manfrin.
“I don’t closely study how to draw the figure. I don’t necessarily want to get everything ‘right’ or follow the rules. I want the freedom to show you the flaws and imperfections.” – Linda Christensen
Linda Christensen is drawn to the human figure, particularly when one thinks they are alone. To her, the body carries emotion and reveals more than a person may realize. Christensen depicts these private moments in her work, relishing in the vulnerability that can be captured. Starting with abstract shapes, she builds up their complexity as she paints, applying carefully selected hues until she creates a sense of harmony across the canvas.
“My paintings give the viewer the opportunity to examine their own reactions to the narrative with its subliminal messaging through body language, attire, and attitude.” – Gwen Manfrin
Gwen Manfrin is inspired by emotion, capturing the essence of an individual through a chance encounter. Her work is a snapshot of a moment in action, the last flicker in a second that soon passes. With watercolor and graphite on panel, Manfrin meticulously illustrates the subtle movements that the eye could miss. Manfrin strives for each figure to pose questions for the viewer, leaving it up to them to reflect on and decipher.
