I don't paint as much as I tend to re-work the canvas. I paint like a tradesman, a baker, a knitter; making adjustments to the colors and surface and how it makes me feel; still being influenced by the thoughts of patterns and relationships.
- John Belingheri
Bay Area artist John Belingheri explores repetition of form through his mixed media and oil paintings. Each painting features an intently mapped array of ellipses that guide the viewer's eye around the canvas. These shapes bump up against each other creating visual vibration. By simplifying shape to one ovoid form, Belingheri has allowed color and texture to take the main stage. He sands and paints rigorously to create the texture that he finishes with a wax rub, emphasizing the velvety hues of the oils and exhibiting his mastery of surface.
John Belingheri has exhibited at Fine Silver Gallery, San Antonio, TX; Sandler Hudson Gallery, Atlanta, GA; Crocker Art Museum "Neo Mod" traveling show, Sacramento, CA and Monterey, CA, and has work in both public and private collections nationally and internationally. He received his MFA in 1981 and BFA in 1976 from Brigham Young University. This is his fifth exhibition with Andrea Schwartz Gallery.
